internal hdd hard drive error

My PS3 does not work. Is there any way to retrieve the contents of the hard drive?
My PS3 has suffered what is known as YLOD (yellow death) the Internet community. Indicates an internal error with a yellow light. This means that my PS3 does not start and if I do not understand console repair, will I lose all my data. I wonder if there is anyway to retrieve the contents of your hard drive? For example, you can plug in a friends PS3 and it's back there for an external hard drive, or if connect to my PC and copy the contents? Will I then be able to put in the hard disk of the PS3 again? I was wondering if any of these methods work or if other there.
im an expert or team will do is take the hard drive and put in another ps3 if u have a USB drive to save PS3 idols there and open there is a switch inside swith Walla very necessary that good luck
