Will a USB 3.0 PCI-E card work with this motherboard at full speed?
I’m wondering if the USB 3.0 PCI-E cards that are currently out there, at 25£, will work with basic £80 P55/1156 motherboards?
That’s a good question.
The overly simple answer is yes.
But whether any given system can handle 5gbs sustained is another question. I think USB 3.0 is going to uncover a few “grey areas” in pci-e technology.
OTOH, there aren’t many devices out there today that can SEND 5gbs to the USB port, either. Let’s face it, not many devices even utilize the 480mbs of USB 2.0.
Still, the p55 chipset is fast and proven, so it should be able to host a USB 3.0 controller, and it’s devices, if anything can.
