Why used to put my processor in my motherboard?

My motherboard FIC KTBC51G in the Gateway GT4016 is compatible with a processor called the Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2. I'm sure it was socket 939 and it was. When I try to put the processor into the socket is not appropriate. Everything good I doubled check the compatibility processor socket.
