What are the benefits of using SLI? and what is the Equivalent ATI card with crossfire to the NVIDIA GTX 470?

Hi I am have started to build my new up to date gaming PC and have to just by the graphics card, I was origionally planning to get 2 NVIDIA Zotec GTX470’s and connect them using SLI but then I saw on my motherboard (Gigabyte H55M-D2H) that it has a Crossfire logo on it and I looked on the Gigabyte website to see what it said and it can only take ATI Crossfire, not NVIDIA SLI so I was wondering what is the equivelent card for ATI so that I can use them.

Sorry, it’s the ATi Radeon HD 5850. The HD 5870 is the equivalent to the GTX 480.
