diagnose cpu problems
diagnose computer problems?
I have had a computer recently die on me recently and need help diagnosing the problem. The problem is that the computer tends to shut down or restart at random times.
by process of elimination i know the problems do not deal with:
windows
RAM
motherboard
hard drive
disk drive
video card
Now i’m left with the CPU and PSU.
My computer does have a history of PSU troubles so i want to know how to diagnose where the problem is coming from so i can replace the parts. thank you
i do not buy budget cpu’s and it was not overheating
Test the PSU, it is the cause of prob 70% of latent computer hardware problems. You can do a self diagnostic on the PSU if you want by simply opening it up (make sure to unplug everything and dont touch any interior parts as the capacitors can still hold electric charge). Look for any bulging capacitors, burn marks, or leaks (usually yellowish salts).
Or you can test the rails by taking a molex connector and using a voltmeter. You will need to leave the main plug plugged in to use the mobo power on button to power on the PSU.
For the voltmeter: black into black slot then red lead into yellow slot and should get 12V. Then black into black and red into red and should get 5 V.
