Avp.exe and Kaspersky problems – remove Kaspersky on Vista?

In recent days, I get this message in programs that require considerable use CPU: "avp.exe stopped working:" I have lots of memory and space on my computer and run these programs use high CPU before. Nothing extra or new runs in the plane. I've heard avp.exe is associated with Kaspersky. Kaspersky I not on my computer so I can not remove. Anybody know how to get rid of "stopped working avp.exe" errors and / or removing Kaspersky? I ran HijackThis (no problem) and all scans. I'm on Vista 32 bit.
