cpu turbo power limit

cpu turbo power limit
Will my Pentium4(3ghz) limit the power of a 9800gt?

Here’s my system:
Mobo: Asrock 775dual-880Pro (Pci-e x4 – I know it sucks)
Vga: nvidia 6200 Turbo Cache 64MB (I know it sucks ;p)
Cpu: Pentium 4 @ 3ghz (I know it sucks a bit)
Ram: 2×1gb ddr2 Kingston
O/S: Windows XP

So, is a 9800gt worth buying for my system? I will replace my mobo and cpu, in the not too distand future. Thanks in advance
So you suggest me , to change the mobo and the cpu first, and then buy the 9800gt?

think of it this way,

you have a machine that can be made faster by adding a gpu. It wont be as fast as something with a top-end cpu and ddr3rm and a raptor velocity hard drive, but it will be faster.

Its like whacking a racing carbie onto a car. The first car you put it on is not going to run like a 911 with the same carbie, but having said that, that carbie is going to make that car run as fast as it possibly could (without any other mods)

Its important to distinguish this from the commonly asserted ‘bottleneck’ argument, which holds that there’s no point putting a fast gpu on a slow computer because at a certain point it will only attain the performance of a slow gpu. This analogy is false. The faster cpu will make the machine faster than the slow cpu, it just wont reach the performance peaks another, faster, machine would be capable.

by the way, the 9800gt is just a rebadged 8800gt. I dont know how much you are paying for it but in terms of performance dollars its worth $110-$120

having said that, if your board upgrade is 6 months away, the above post has a point. By that time the 9800gtx+/ radeon 4850’s will be down to closer to the $100 mark. You will save some money on the card if you wait, as gpu’s constantly devalue.
