What is Malware?
Malware is define as malicious software. It can be caused by software programs that claim to be FREE but really are not. Some of these programs may inform you that your computer is infected and offer a FREE scan. After you say yes the program will begin to scan your computer’s hard drive for several minutes and it will inform you that your computer is infected.
10 times out of 10 your computer is not infected. Malware Removal – How to Get Rid of Malware

Also if you have more than one Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware installed this can cause Malware to infect your computer. – Remove any old Norton Anti-Virus program that is not currently active. I have seen multiple infections caused by a inactive or out dated Norton Anti-Virus software.
